7 Year Itch: Laundry Room Makeover

This entry is part 4 of 5 in the series The 7 Year Itch

FINALLY!  I am finally ready to reveal our laundry room makeover.  You have been getting glimpses of it through some of the posts I have been doing since the beginning of the year, but now I have some amazing pictures (thanks to my friend Erica) to show you just how big the difference is!

When we first moved in to our house about 8 years ago, we were blessed to have an “indoor” laundry room.  At our first house the laundry was in the un-drywalled garage.  It just felt dirty even if the laundry was clean.  A few months before we moved, we had purchased our front loaders for the laundry.  The indoor laundry room was completely empty except for the washer and dryer.  So, my husband had his cabinet-makers make some cabinets to maximize the storage options in the room.  They added uppers and a countertop over the washer/dryer and created a large cabinet on the perpendicular wall with lots of hidden and exposed storage options.  And we painted the walls a cool teal/blue.  I fashioned some curtains to cover the washer/dryer when I didn’t want them to be exposed.  And that was our laundry room for quite a while.  Continue Reading

The 7 Year Itch – Living Room Reveal

Living Room makeover - big change!
This entry is part 3 of 5 in the series The 7 Year Itch

It has been ages since we did an update on our remodel in our home.  Partly because life was just too busy, but partly because our remodel has turned into a season of patience building for me.  As I have said before, since my husband is a builder, we have to fit in where we can with the subs.  This means that we have great discounts on the work and materials!  But it also means we have to wait until they can fit our remodel into their schedules.  I know that every one says that remodeling always take longer than you think they will, but this has really taken MUCH longer than I would have liked!

This is what our living room looked like at this time last year.  We had already given our plans for the remodel to our cabinet-maker, and we were in the midst of waiting for them to schedule the install of the cabinets.  It was a LONG wait! Continue Reading

Cabinet Makeover with Contact Paper

We are blessed with a laundry room in our home.  In our last home, the laundry was in the garage (and the garage wasn’t even dry-walled).   And when we moved into our home the laundry room was not outfitted with any storage.  It was a nice large space with absolutely nothing in it.  The blank canvas was screaming for some shelving!  We designed some cabinetry back then and had it installed.  But I have been kind of ready for a change for a while, so I decided to make over our cabinets with some contact paper.

I have kind of fallen in love with contact paper in recent years.  It is so easy to work with and can make a bold statement while transforming a space.  I used a great blue and white contact paper in our pantry last year and I still get a little giddy when I open my pantry door and am greeted by the cheery paper lined walls.  So I ordered some more contact paper and got started on the cabinets in our laundry room.

As I was installing the contact paper, I realized that there are some tricks to making it easier to install and I thought I would share them with you: Continue Reading

Creating a Layered Look for Shelves

We are in the middle of a remodeling project in our living room that has (of course) taken much longer than we were expecting.  But we are starting to really see things come together and are almost done with it!  And last week we had some custom shelves installed on one of our walls.  I have been having so much fun deciding how I want them to be styled and I am pretty happy with how they have turned out so far.  So I thought I would share with you 5 steps to creating a layered look on shelves.

The shelves we had made are inspired by Restoration Hardware shelves that we just could not see ourselves spending what they ask.  Continue Reading

Entryway Preview and Rug Giveaway!

Disclaimer: I received a rug in exchange for an honest review of the product.  All opinions in the post are my own.

We are in the midst of some remodeling projects around our home, but they are going much, much slower than anticipated (sounds like most remodels, huh?)  But we have to wait for the workers to be available around my husband’s building schedule (read more and ask questions here), so patience is being worked out.

So, I was so surprised and excited when I received an invitation from Mohawk Home to select a rug for my home in exchange for an honest review.  It was like my little reward for all my patience!  I got to shop through all their rugs and pick one just right for our home. Continue Reading
