We found this today’s Picture Book of the Day, Emily’s Balloon by Komako Sakai at the library when we were doing our One Year Old Preschool unit on colors and it became an almost instant favorite.
I came across it again on my last stop at the library and I knew G loved it so much, I checked it out again. She was very happy to have the story back in the regular rotation and asks for it over and over. I am considering purchasing the book because we enjoy it so much.
A short synopsis: Emily gets a balloon, brings it home and becomes friends. Something happens to the balloon, but Emily does not forget her friend.
The story’s prose is sparse, leaving lots of room for additional discussion with little ones. And the art work is adorable.
We enjoyed this so much we went to the party store to get G a yellow balloon which she called, “Emmy’s Boon” and played with just like Emily does in the book all day.
If you have not seen this book, I recommend you check it out with your toddler. It is such fun!

This looks like such a sweet book. We’ll have to check it out from the library. Thanks for sharing.
I just checked out this book on Wednesday from our local library. Thanks for sharing this story. I think I will get my girls a yellow balloon too…this will make the book and story time even more special.
Isn’t it a neat book? I think the balloon idea helps bring it to life.
