“Alright, alright, alright”
Oh, how I wish I had Matthew McConaughey’s easy way and ever-so-cool outlook on life! He actually got up after winning an award this season (probably more than once) and said that phrase that typifies his persona and gets him mocked constantly. The cool as a cucumber way he says it just makes me smile.
But in real life, in this homemaker’s heart, things have not been so cool lately. I haven’t been able to go with the flow and ride the waves like a surfer. I feel like I have been drowning in certain areas, struggling in others, and barely making it in general. I get all motivated to “start fresh” and “get things done” and then I seem to fall flat in a matter of minutes or hours.
I am stuck in survival mode over here! Ack!
And I am getting from a lot of my regular readers and those who interact with our Hope for Homemakers group on Facebook that you are, too!
Are you ready to break out of it together?
I am so excited to announce the next book in our Hope for Homemakers series: Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine (aka Money Saving Mom)!
I received an advance copy of this book way back in December, but remember the aforementioned near-drowning going on in many areas of my life? Well, reading it and getting myself out of the fix I am in was just not happening…YET!
But I know the principles in this book are something that would benefit all of us, especially those of us who feel overwhelmed, overworked, and over-tired (check, check, and check). Some of the principles are things I have been trying to implement in my life for some time, but without success. So am hoping the team atmosphere and encouragement of this group of ladies will help motivate and move us from the current state of survival into something that looks more like thriving.
And you know I needed motivation to even get this started. And if you read this blog you know what motivates me:
STARBUCKS!
I will do almost anything to get a Starbucks card in the bargain. So when I read about Crystal’s offer to get a $10 Starbucks card when you purchase her book and post about it on social media, I knew this was the push I needed!
If you, however, do not need a push outside of the nest you can click to buy Say Goodbye to Survival Mode at Amazon and have it in your hands in a matter of days or on your Kindle in a matter of minutes.
Are you ready to join us and break out of this rut together? Here’s what to do:
- Go get the book (with or without the Starbucks card). If you purchase it ANYwhere you can get a freebie: Mind Organization for Moms when you enter your receipt information here.
- Come back here and let me know you are reading along with us.
- And follow this general schedule for reading the book and implementing the strategies in each chapter.
February 17th – Chapter One, Stop Trying to Do it All
March 3rd – Chapter Two, Say Yes to the Best
March 17th – Chapter Three, If you Aim at Nothing You Will Hit it Every Time
March 31st – Chapter Four, Discipline is Not a Bad Word
April 14th – Chapter Five, Be Intentional With Your Bank Account
April 28th – Chapter Six, Manage the Home Front
May 12th – Chapter Seven, When You Feel Like a Failure
May 26th – Chapter Eight, Yes, You can Make a Difference
June 9th – Chapter Nine, Sometimes it is About You
I am giving two weeks to read and start to implement her strategies into our lives. And I will try to write something of my journey at each date listed as a way to encourage you on your journey to thriving instead of surviving. And I can’t wait to hear from you, too.
I know this may seem like just another thing to add on to the pile mountain of things you need to do, but I truly think (from reading just one chapter of this book) that these strategies will get us where we want to be as homemakers. And I think they are principles that apply to almost every life while giving us the freedom to be uniquely ourselves in our homes. You never know we may have a new catchphrase that sounds eerily similar to Mr. McConaughey!
I am excited! Are you?

My copy of this book is supposed to arrive today, and I’m so excited to read it! I have two kids under 2, and I am definitely living in survival mode!
Oh, good Rachel! Make sure you get your freebie and join us for the reading schedule!
I have heard great things about this book! And now you’ve convinced me to get it…if only my to-read pile wasn’t so overwhelming right now! Can’t wait to hear how you like it. Stopping by from SITS Girls ~Krissa (http://www.morethanmundane.com)
I’m supposed to be getting mine soon as well! Can’t wait to stop living in survival mode 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a book I will be buying soon! #SITSBlogging
I am SO adding this book to my list of books to read. Living in survival mode describes my current situation perfectly. There are so many things I want to be doing, starting, etc…but I have some things I need to finish before I can get started on doing those things I want to be doing, so for the time being I’m just going through the motions. I NEED to read this book!
Visiting from #SITSBlogging.
Sounds like a great book and the Starbucks gift card makes it a done deal…Thanks for sharing! #SITSBlogging
There were so many things I never did, and there were many things I wanted so badly to do. I did what I had to do. Life is kinda funny that way. In doing the had to, I got my want to’s! #sitsblogging
I do believe that I am going to join you on the reading schedule for this book. I enjoyed looking around your blog. #SITSBlogging Visiting from http://www.welcometograndcentral.com
Yea, Laura Jo! So glad to have you along! Look forward to getting to know you through this book. Thanks for the kind words!
I’ve heard about this book a lot lately, I think I need to get it and read it!
It is already on the bestseller list! Lots of good word of mouth and I know it has some very practical principles to help us order our lives!
I just bought this book! I can’t wait to read it. #SITSBlogging
Be sure to come back and let us know what you think and how you are implementing it!
Sounds like a good book. I might add it to my lost list of “books to read”. #SITSBlogging
I chuckle at Matt McConaughey’s laid back attitude too. I am really enjoying his work on True Detective. He and Woody Harrelson have a hit on their hands. That book sounds great. The chapters are very relatable. #SITSBlogging
I don’t have that channel, but I have heard good things about that show, Kimberly! And I do think he is a great actor. I am looking forward to seeing him in his latest movies, when I get the chance! Thanks for stopping by and saying hi!
