Sensory Play for Baby with Tissue Paper

sensory play for baby with tissue paper - discovering the world through simple sensory play. Lots of simple ideas for making it fun for baby!
This entry is part 2 of 33 in the series Baby Days

Our youngest one (AG, 7 months) is finally getting around a little bit more and spending more time awake during the day.  And it is so fun to watch him, as his sister says, “learn how to play.”  The discoveries he makes each day are so fun!  And this portion of his growing up is so fleeting – I feel the need to soak it all up!  Today we were playing with him and I just quickly decided to throw in a little sensory fun into the mix.  And it was so simple and added up to so much fun for all of us!

All we added to the mix was some colorful tissue paper!

This is such a great early sensory experience for AG because he is getting so much sensory input:

  • the wrinkling of the tissue paper provides something new to touch
  • the crinkling of the tissue paper provides something new to hear
  • the color of the tissue paper provides something new to see, and
  • the movement of the paper provides something new to wonder at

To create your own sensory play for baby, here are some ideas for introducing tissue paper play: Continue Reading

Sensory Glop for Preschool Play

Our girls are really enjoying their Bob books!  We picked up a set for each of them.  We got the Alphabet one for Wren and the first Sight Words one for Grace.  I know very little about how to teach a person to read, but thankfully our girls are making it easy on me by learning without much instruction!  But since picking up the Bob books, the girls’ interest in reading has hit overdrive.  They ask every day, several times a day if we can read another new book.  And since we are working so quickly through them, I thought I would extend their life by creating some book related activities for the girls to do.  The first one we tried was sensory glop based on the Bob Book Jump. Itsy, Bitsy, Creepy, Crawly Play Date

Super simple Spider sensory bin - perfect for a Halloween themed play date.

We have a standing play date each week with a special group of moms and toddlers.  We rotate hosting duties and it works very nicely for socializing the kids and the mamas.  I love hosting because I love trying to come up with fun things for the kids to do while they are here.

Since we are coming up on Halloween I thought it would be fun to have a  Trick or Treat play date to play with and eat spiders! Continue Reading

Baby’s First 4th of July, Sensory Play

This entry is part 25 of 33 in the series Baby Days

Are you looking for more summer fun?  Check out our other Simple Summer Activities.

With Independence Day coming up, I thought it would be fun to create a fun patriotic activity for W – this will be our baby’s first 4th of July!  Babies are so interested in tasting everything we put in front of them.  And our baby REALLY loves yogurt – a LOT!  So I thought I would create a fun activity for her to experience the most basic parts of the fourth of july: red, white, and blue, and stars!  Continue Reading
