This #ClutterFree Journey is really getting to be fun! I am starting to see my house the way that I want it to look. It really helps after removing all the clutter. I am starting to see the potential in our various rooms, to think about the things I would really like to do in those rooms. In short, it is giving purpose to my home again! And I love it!
Along the way I have been discovering the pit falls for clutter, the likely clutter places and I am addressing the specific places with specific solutions. This week, I worked on our living room.
As with a few of the other spaces I have worked on, I thought initially there wasn’t much clutter in our living room. We have been working on a remodel of this room for a LONG time (pictures coming soon, I promise!) and throughout the process, I have been removing things that simply do not belong and carefully placing things that do. Wow, we have really made progress in our Clutter Free Journey this past week! I was kind of not expecting to have a lot of things to get rid of in our kitchen because I “de-cluttered” fairly recently. But I found a LOT more to say goodbye to because I had a different mindset this time around. And this time around, I am really feeling more free because of the true de-cluttering. I am able to keep my counters much more clean. And I can keep up with the process of keeping a household that revolves around the kitchen
The kitchen is kind of a hard spot for this Clutter Free journey because I really do LOVE to cook and bake and I LOVE to have all the accouterments to go with the cooking and baking. But even as I went through this process this time, I asked myself different questions and found that I really do not use a number of the things I had in my kitchen. And if I don’t use it, I need to get rid of it! Continue Reading
One of the things I am pursuing this year is quiet. And one of the more tangible ways I am pursuing it is by attempting to get rid of much (if not all) of the clutter that seems to scream at me from the moment I wake up. The very first thing I do in the morning is walk downstairs and look into our laundry room. I usually get the laundry started and grab a cup of coffee and head back upstairs to my office.
And my office: what shall I say about my office? It is the opposite of neat and tidy. It is the dumping ground for all those projects to get to, bills I will never look at again, random girls clothing and straight up junk. And what do I do in my office?
I have my quiet time!
Isn’t that so ironic? I sit at the feet of Jesus surrounded by a couple hundred random bits and bobs of junk. I attempt to read His word, meditate on it and pray for the day ahead surrounded by the very stuff that gives me the least peace I can think of. Wow. I am getting really convicted about cleaning up my office, just from writing this! Stay tuned to this journey, as I gather up the courage to show you pictures of the worst clutter spaces in our house (we have 3)!
As you know, I am on a mission to regain all the quiet I can this year. And part of that process has been starting with an uncluttered home. As I have begun to strip away the messes and the clutter in our home, I have discovered a peace and a joy that is unmatched. My husband mentioned yesterday that he just doesn’t find the “joy in cleaning” like I do. I asked him, but don’t you like the results? He said, “Yes.” I said that is what motivates me. I LOVE the feeling of a clean, well-organized space. So this week I am focusing on our entryway as part of the clutter-free journey.
Our entryway is not actually used the way that most entries are used; meaning we come through a different entry when we come home (through the laundry room from the garage). So, it doesn’t get as much typical use as in other homes. Our entryway consists of three main spaces: the entryway proper, a coat closet, a side entryway that leads to a bathroom and bedroom/office. I have been on this crazy de-cluttering mission I am calling my Clutter Free Journey (check out the other posts here) and it has been rocking our entire house. Even the places where I didn’t realize clutter was lurking. As I have been working through this process, I have discovered I had allowed some clutter fixtures to creep in. I wrote about clutter fixtures a while back and thought I had banished them forever, but there they were standing in plain sight, yet invisible to my eyes. Continue Reading
I have been working on a new system for my toiletries and bath products for the past couple of weeks and I am LOVING the simplicity! I have been working through my Clutter Free Journey for weeks now and when I got to our master bathroom, I was overwhelmed by the amount of beauty products I have that I simply do not use. I really needed a new bathroom organization system! It was really, REALLY hard to purge items that do have usefulness (and I gave a LOT of things away in the process), but since I implemented my new system, I have been happy with how long it takes me to get ready in the morning, I have created the weekly bathing ritual I have always wanted, and I am using what I have!
