I am just going to level with you here: the “night before” is where the bulk of the preparations to teach Saxon Math rests. A small section of the “lesson preparation” box, belies the amount of time it takes to prepare these items.
In fact the preparations included in the “night before” derailed us our first year of Saxon Math. I would look at the work involved in some of the projects and immediately procrastinate, for days, sometimes weeks at a time. We ended up taking a year and a half to teach Saxon Math 1!
The “night before” sat just over my shoulder and mocked me for that first year. It recommended I buy a bushel of apples and pass them out to the neighbors with strict instructions for them to count the seeds as they each ate an apple a day for a week. And then, the “night before” mocked me when I didn’t get it done.
