I don’t think our crafts could get much simpler to do, but they are fun! I have noticed that the ones for this unit on colors have tended to use shapes, so I am going to try to keep that theme going. I love putting these simple crafts together with our toddler, but I also love having them prepared for when Grandma comes over. Grandma loves to do a craft with G while I run errands or do something around the house.
Here is the latest craft from the mind of a person the opposite of crafty (what would that be anyway?):
Materials:
- Orange construction paper
- black construction paper
- glue stick (I used washable)
- colors (optional)
- googly eyes
How-to:
- Fold orange construction paper in half. Cut a one and one half inch to two inch circle out of the folded paper, producing two circles. Cut a long rectangle (about 2″ x 5″) out of the paper, as well. Cut the strips of paper (a desired width) from the long rectangle, producing six small rectangles (for legs and tail).
- Cut a rectangle out of the black construction paper the same size as the orange rectangle. Cut this rectangle into smaller strips. (These are the tiger’s stripes)
- Glue one circle to the front of the largest orange rectangle and the small rectangles to the back to form legs and tail. Fold the remaining circle in half and cut out two triangles from the folded side. Unfold the resulting diamonds and glue one half of each to the back of the circle (head) to make ears.
- Glide glue stick over the body of the tiger. Have your little one place the strips of black on the glue to create stripes for the tiger.
- Draw in a mouth and nose and color more of the tiger, if desired.
Voila…paper tiger!

Oh, I love your results. I am sure he really had fun and feels a sense of accomplishment when he sees them. Our girl still gets excited when she spots her animals.
