Easter Egg Decorate and Play

We don’t do the Easter Bunny around here, but I am always up for something fun for G to do. So when her aunt posted a technique for dying Easter eggs on my Facebook wall last week, I knew we needed to do this one! It is perfect for toddlers because it is so sensory and messy.

A few NOTES: 1. I highly recommend you do this in the bath tub or outside! 2. Find some gloves if you do not want to look like an Easter egg blew up on you for a couple of days (I personally do not mind it, I smile when I look at the evidence of the fun we had!). 3. This is MESSY! Be prepared! You will need to do some cleanup.

What you need:

Shaving cream
Food coloring in various colors
Hard-boiled eggs (chilled)
Paper towels

How-to:

Spray shaving cream into a container (I put down some cushy shelf liner to protect the eggs, as well).
Drop a few drops of food coloring into the shaving cream (use as many colors as you like).
Place eggs in shaving cream and get to rolling!
After you have coated the eggs completely, lay them aside for a few minutes.
Rub off excess shaving cream with paper towels. Rinse the eggs.

The results kind of turned out similar. Next time we do it, I think we will try to put different colors into different bins of shaving cream to see how it turns out. But we really liked our predominately pink ones!

After we were done dyeing the Easter eggs, this turned into a fun sensory art project in the bathtub! G LOVED it. We did hand prints and drew hearts into the shaving cream. Because the colors had blended together, it looked like some hippie art project from the seventies or graffiti. But the best part is it was very easy to clean up! This was definitely a fun time and we will be doing this next year. It is much more entertaining than dyeing eggs the old-fashioned way!
