Phone with Shopkick Rewards

I do realize that to some today’s task might not sound much like an accomplishment worth writing about, but I am pretty pleased it was finished today and it was not the easiest task I have done this month.  You see, I have been complaining about my cell phone for a few months now and my techie husband has been gently encouraging me to take the plunge and buy a new one.

After complaining about it yet another time, my husband said, “We could get it over at Best Buy and get them to price match it from Amazon and have it today.”  Well, yesterday was today in this story, but we have a toddler and a baby, so you do things when you can.  But I was motivated to say yes because I am a ShopKicker and I knew I would be able to really rack up the rewards if I purchased at Best Buy.

Let me give you a quick rundown on how I did this task and how we saved the money.

We went to Best Buy with our children in tow.  When we got there, we located the phone we wanted (my husband did all the background research) and stood in line.  We waited, and waited, and waited…practicing patience for everybody in the family like it was a competition.  There were a couple of solo strolls around the store to make sure everybody could maintain their composure throughout the shopping trip.  When we got to the front of the line, and let the man know what we wanted, he checked us out.  When he was checking us out I told him the phone number I have connected to my ShopKick account and told him to press S in the system (If you are wondering what ShopKick is, please check out this post,).  He found it!  Then we told him to look us up on the MyBestBuy program.  Again, he found us.  That was all we needed to do to make sure we got the rewards for our purchase.  And then we waited, and waited, and waited some more while the phone got activated.  Then we came home for some naps!

Here is how our savings broke down:

Best Buy’s regular price: $279.99

Amazon matched price: $199.99

Shopkicks earned: 1603 (1 per dollar, plus an in-store incentive, plus 50 kicks for walking in) – enough for a $5 gift card

MyBestBuy points: 300 – enough for a $5 gift card

Total savings: $90!

I am so pleased with the new phone and you won’t hear any more complaints out of me for a LONG time!  Another task tackled!
