It has been ages since we did an update on our remodel in our home. Partly because life was just too busy, but partly because our remodel has turned into a season of patience building for me. As I have said before, since my husband is a builder, we have to fit in where we can with the subs. This means that we have great discounts on the work and materials! But it also means we have to wait until they can fit our remodel into their schedules. I know that every one says that remodeling always take longer than you think they will, but this has really taken MUCH longer than I would have liked!
This is what our living room looked like at this time last year. We had already given our plans for the remodel to our cabinet-maker, and we were in the midst of waiting for them to schedule the install of the cabinets. It was a LONG wait! Continue Reading
As you know, I am on a mission to regain all the quiet I can this year. And part of that process has been starting with an uncluttered home. As I have begun to strip away the messes and the clutter in our home, I have discovered a peace and a joy that is unmatched. My husband mentioned yesterday that he just doesn’t find the “joy in cleaning” like I do. I asked him, but don’t you like the results? He said, “Yes.” I said that is what motivates me. I LOVE the feeling of a clean, well-organized space. So this week I am focusing on our entryway as part of the clutter-free journey.
Our entryway is not actually used the way that most entries are used; meaning we come through a different entry when we come home (through the laundry room from the garage). So, it doesn’t get as much typical use as in other homes. Our entryway consists of three main spaces: the entryway proper, a coat closet, a side entryway that leads to a bathroom and bedroom/office. We are in the middle of a remodeling project in our living room that has (of course) taken much longer than we were expecting. But we are starting to really see things come together and are almost done with it! And last week we had some custom shelves installed on one of our walls. I have been having so much fun deciding how I want them to be styled and I am pretty happy with how they have turned out so far. So I thought I would share with you 5 steps to creating a layered look on shelves.
Disclaimer: I received a rug in exchange for an honest review of the product. All opinions in the post are my own.
We are in the midst of some remodeling projects around our home, but they are going much, much slower than anticipated (sounds like most remodels, huh?) But we have to wait for the workers to be available around my husband’s building schedule (read more and ask questions here), so patience is being worked out.
So, I was so surprised and excited when I received an invitation from Mohawk Home to select a rug for my home in exchange for an honest review. It was like my little reward for all my patience! I got to shop through all their rugs and pick one just right for our home. Continue Reading
We went ahead and tackled today’s task early in the day because we had a birthday party to get to. We have had this project lying around since before we had kids and I can’t believe we waited this long to get it done. It literally took less than 10 minutes to put it up! We are really good at procrastinating.
We have a fondness of Texas that comes naturally to anyone born in the state. It can never be removed. It is stuck in there. A while back we were in the market for a Texas state flag, but living in California, we didn’t see very many…in fact, none. So my in-laws found one for us on a trip to Texas and we love it. We are book lovers in our house. Before I had this blog, my husband and I spent a year working on a book blog together. Our girls are developing a love for reading, too! But a problem with having little ones is limited time to read for ourselves. We read all day with our girls, but those books don’t feed me like my books. I love mostly non-fiction and my husband is into fantasy fiction.
