Precious

Precious in His sight

I was seated in the makeshift nursing room off the room where our church meets on Sunday feeding my sweet young one with tears in my eyes.  I was listening to our pastor make a point shockingly clear and heartbreakingly real.

He mentioned the horrific massacre of the innocent children at a school in Sandy Hook last month…twenty lives counting children alone.  Then he asked if we could imagine an evil killer who plotted to kill all the children in all the schools (elementary, intermediate and secondary) in all of America.  All told, if this killer were successful in his dastardly plan, he would murder 5.1 million children.  Just like that.

Kind of a jarring thought.

Then he revealed the amount of abortions performed in the last 40 years since Roe v. Wade was decided: 5.8 million.

It took no time for that to sink in.  For every child in school in America, there is more than one more that could be sitting next to them, that could be their best friend, their playmate, their boyfriend or girlfriend.  There is an entire national school system of children that never got to hear the singing of, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”  Never got to listen to someone sing to them: “You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine.”  A massive throng of children who never toddled along happily, slid down a slide, or felt the wind rush through their hair as they swung back and forth on a swing.  There are children who could have sat across from each child in America on a teeter totter, or at a lunch table, or even at the principal’s office.

This is devastating.

How did we get to a place in society where the murder of 20 children by an evil young man is talked about non-stop on the news, but the topic of abortion is off-limits, too political, too touchy, too religious?  When did we decide that a child outside of the womb is more precious than a child inside the womb?

All I can think of is the song I sing with G:

Jesus loves the little children

All the children of the world

Red and yellow, black and white

They are precious in His sight.

Jesus loves the little children of the world.

And that is the word that G repeats each time she hears it: “precious.”  Oh, that we would open our eyes to see the wonder of each child God has made.  Oh, that we would share the miracle with those that don’t see it.

God give us hearts to care, eyes to see, and knees to fall on in prayer.

Well said. It’s a sad day we live in. I thank The Lord for His love and protection, and that we can shed The Light in these evil times. Lord, come quickly!
