Monster Must-Read Books

picture book of the day mostly monsterly

Our oldest daughter has been obsessed with Monsters Inc. for a few months now.  We still haven’t shown her Monsters University, but she doesn’t know any different.  She asks to watch Monsters Inc every family movie night.  We even indulged her love of Monsters Inc. by asking our talented crafty friend, Jenny, from Cooky Crochet to make us all a Monsters Inc. hat for Halloween (pictures to come!).

Our youngest daughter is getting in on the monster love too, her current favorite book is a monster book.  She just loves to “read” it!

Since we have monsters on the brain, I thought it would be appropriate to create a book list of Monster Must-Reads

The Monstore by Tara Lazar Imagine what you could get accomplished if you could purchase a monster to help you get rid of your annoying sister.  This book explores the benefits and consequences of such a purchase.

The Monster at the end of the Book – I remember this from when I was a kid!  Such a cute book exploring fear of monsters with a surprise ending.  It is a real page-turner even with all the warnings from Grover not to turn the next page!

Monsters Don’t Eat Broccoli by Barbara Jean Hicks – Find out what monsters really like to eat!  Apparently monsters like very different treats than children.  Very cute illustrations by Sue Hendra playfully advertize monster delights.

Goodnight Little Monster by Helen Ketteman – Ever wonder how monster moms and dads get their little monsters ready for bed?  A cute bedtime routine book tells just how mini-monsters need a little help to get to bed, too.

Mostly Monsterly by Tammi Sauer – Every child is unique.  And so are monsters!  Find out what makes Bernadette the monster different and her unexpected un-monster-like activities.

There Was and Old Monster by Rebecca Emberly – A play on There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, this cute book is also a song!  Such a great silly song for kids who love monsters.

I am part of a great group of bloggers who pick picture books to share each day (check out all the selections in one place on the Picture Book of the Day Pinterest board .  My pick for today is Mostly Monsterly because I love when people have unexpected facets to their personalities.  This book encourages kids to be themselves without fear!

What are your favorite monster-themed books?
