Well…I didn’t get yesterday’s challenge done because I have a back problem that I have been trying to work out on my own for a while. Turns out it is bigger than me and I need to go to the chiropractor and take it easy for a couple of days. The mopping will have to wait.
So, I am thinking I need to work today on something a little more stationary. How about laundry? I have been hearing for a while that you can save lots of money by making your own laundry detergent. And I have even seen some recipes for it online, but I have always had laundry detergent on hand and so didn’t see the point of making my own.
Today, I am on my last bit of regular laundry detergent and have most of the items to make my own on hand. I also have a beautiful glass vase just waiting to be filled with something lovely and placed on my laundry room counter. I think it is time to get to making my own detergent!
Here is the recipe I have settled on:
Simple. Home. Blessings. Laundry Detergent
- 2 cups washing soda (I am using Arm & Hammer)
- 2 cups soap flakes (found in the laundry aisle at the market)
- 2 cups Borax
- 1 cup powdered OxyClean
- 1 cup baking soda
This is basically a mix and stir kind of recipe, but you may want to stir after the addition of each ingredient to make sure the mix is consistent.
To use: Place 1/4 cup mixture into washer, as with usual laundry detergent. For easy fabric softener, pour 1/4 cup vinegar into the fabric softener/rinse compartment of your washer.
I am hoping this works out well. I think it will prove to be a great savings over traditional laundry detergent.
The challenge for today is to get 2 loads of laundry done (with my new detergent). That means sorted, washed, folded and put away!
Have a wonderful day! Leave a comment letting me know how you are doing on the challenge!
