A Family TasteOff

One of the very few foods our entire family agrees upon is yogurt. We love the stuff!  We go through it possibly a little too quickly.  And we love all kinds of yogurt, but we are pretty partial to Yoplait regular yogurt. So when I got the opportunity to test out one of Yoplait’s new yogurts and compare it to one of the leading national brands, I jumped at the chance!  This was something we could all do together. My mission was simple: Head to the store and purchase two types of blueberry Greek yogurt (Yoplait Greek and Chobani Fruit on the Bottom).  Then I had to figure out how to have a blind taste test with my family.  Once we tried it, we would see what the consensus was.

Our Family Taste Test

yogurt aisle madness Have you seen the yogurt aisle lately?  I mean seriously – I don’t think there are this many options inside the cockpit of a plane carrying a nuclear warhead.  But I knew what I was looking for and found my yogurt quickly.  I did notice that the Yoplait was priced 12 cents cheaper at this store than the Chobani (1 point Yoplait!). I needed to figure out a way to have a blind taste test.  So while I was at the store, I picked up some small containers.  I went to pick the girls up from Gran’s house and asked for a little help from Gran.  You would trust this grandma, right? grandma the auditor She put each yogurt into containers marked A and B, and wrote the corresponding names down on a piece of paper and put them in a sealed envelope.  I think this process is similar to the way Ernst and Young do it for the Oscars. After we got home I put them in the fridge and waited until everybody was together to have a special dessert taste test.  G was most excited about the two yogurts being named A and B.  W was excited because it was food.  You would trust these two faces to pick your yogurt, right? Toddler #TasteOff Baby #TasteOff The girls tried A yogurt and the girls liked it, said it was “yummy!”  W motioned for more (nothing new). Then the girls tried B yogurt and G asked for A yogurt again.  W enthusiastically motioned for more (rather insistently). So it was a draw: one girl liked A and one girl liked B. Now it was time for D and me to give it a shot.  We tried A and liked it.  Then we tried B and truly hated it.  It had a very bad aftertaste – seriously yuck!  So that is three votes for A and one vote for B. Mama #TasteOff Then I got a little nervous – we definitely had a strong opinion about the yogurts.  And I was writing this post sponsored by Yoplait, but would we like their yogurt? Only the envelope knew… I tore open the envelope, and the winner IS: And the #TasteOff winner is... Yoplait Blueberry Greek Yogurt! Three out of four Hudsons preferred Yoplait Blueberry Greek yogurt to Chobani Blueberry Fruit on the Bottom yogurt in a blind taste test. Yea!  We tried it and agreed with the national taste testers who proclaimed Yoplait to be the better tasting yogurt compared to Chobani.   And honestly it is!  The package says it has no artificial flavors or sweeteners and it just tasted more natural to us.  My husband said the Chobani tasted sour to him.  And as a side note, I preferred the blended nature of the Yoplait yogurt versus the fruit on the bottom option from Chobani.  Sometimes as a mom, you need to get food to a kid’s mouth as fast as possible.  This is just one less thing between my kids and their food! Have you ever had a family taste test?  We had lots of fun with our Yoplait taste off, maybe you should give it a try!  Click here to take the Yoplait Greek Taste-Off with your family.  When you click over, you will have the opportunity to print out a coupon for your family taste-off.  After you try it, let me know what your results were.

I definitely do NOT like Chobani. I also find it sour tasting and didn’t like the fruit. Changed the texture and not in a good way.

Yoplait it is! Definitely would trust your “tasters”!

I would trust them, too. Except Wren has a tendency toward ANY food, not very discriminating in her preferences!

  2. Who wouldn’t trust those cute lil faces! Oh my goodness, so cute! Yoplait was our winner too. Yummy!

Yoplait is the only yogurt my 19yo will eat. We bought a case of Chobani from a soccer fund raiser (we live near the big Chobani plant), and my husband said it was “character-building.” He also said anything that tastes that bad HAS to be good for you (like medicine!)

Too, funny! Make sure you click through to get a coupon to try out the new Yoplait Greek. We liked it WAY more than the Chobani!

  4. Uh oh! I’m a Chobani fan. That being said, I only really like their lemon and lime flavors. My grocery store was out of a lot of flavors over the holidays, so I tried the Yoplait lemon… nope, it was not up to my standards. I think I like the little bits of lemon in the Chobani one.
